24-25.X.2017 - Two Hundred Years of Italian Manuscripts in Oxford: Exploring the Canonici Collection (Oxford, Bodleian Library & Lincoln College) -

Registration is open until 15 November.

The Canonici collection, which was purchased by the Bodleian Library in 1817 from the heirs of the Venetian Jesuit Matteo Luigi Canonici (1727-1805/6), is rich in material from the eleventh to the seventeenth century.

At the two-day conference in November, sixteen scholars from the UK, Europe, and North America will explore the collection through the lenses of their own specialisms. The conference will consider provenance, palaeography, and manuscript illumination, and the examples provided in Canonici's collection of music, liturgy, medicine and pharmacology, and Humanism, as well as Italian, Latin, Greek, Hebrew and French literature. There will also be a poster session, at Lincoln College.

The conference will offer a unique opportunity to identify further paths of research and to become familiar with the collection as a research resource. We hope that you will join us and contribute to the discussion.
