Vagantes conference
Affiliated
with the Medieval Academy's Graduate Student Committee, Vagantes
is an annual traveling conference for graduate students studying
any aspect of the Middle Ages. Its goals include fostering a sense
of community among junior medievalists, providing a forum for interdisciplinary
scholarship, and showcasing the resources of the host institution.
To make the conference available to as many graduate students as
possible, expenses are kept to a minimum. There is no registration
fee, and social events such as receptions and the banquet are free
to participants.
11–13 March
2010. The ninth annual Vagantes Graduate Student Conference will
be held at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. The
conference is partially funded by the University of New Mexico Graduate
and Professional Student Association (GPSA) Projects Committee.
The conference
will include twenty-four papers presented by graduate students in
all areas of medieval studies. In addition, two keynote lectures
are given by faculty members. The opening keynote for 2010 will
be delivered by Timothy Graham, director of the Institute for Medieval
Studies and Professor of History at the University of New Mexico.
Call for
papers: abstracts for twenty-minute papers are invited from
graduate students working on any medieval topic. In keeping with
the mission of Vagantes to advance interdisciplinary studies, submissions
are encouraged in, but are not limited to, Art History, Manuscript
Studies, History, Literature, Musicology, Religious Studies, and
Philosophy. E-mail a brief c.v. and abstract of no more than 300
words by 9 October 2009 to Marisa Sikes, Dept. of English Language
and Literature, Univ. of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM 87131 (msikes@unm.edu;
