The Medieval Academy Fellows

The following were elected Fellows of the Medieval Academy in the 2009 election: Olivia Remie Constable, Ruth Mazo Karras, Christopher Kleinhenz, Irfan Shahîd, and Grover Zinn.

Malcolm Barber, Monique Bourin, Joachim Henning, and Cécile Morrison were elected as Corresponding Fellows.

Nominations for the 2010 election:

Any three members of the Academy may nominate candidates for Active Fellow or Corresponding Fellow in the 2010 election. All nominations that are prepared correctly will appear on the slate. In order to present a balanced slate, additional nominations may be made by the Fellows Nominating Committee: Michael McCormick; Conrad Rudolph, E. Ann Matter.

A nomination consists of the following:

1) a one-page statement of the candidate's qualifications;

2) a curriculum vitae and bibliography not longer than four pages; and

3) the "signatures" of three members of the Academy.

Please submit items #1 and #2 in a clear format that can be photocopied for the mailing of election materials to Fellows; a clean copy sent by mail to the Academy office or as an e-mail attachment (sent to PES@MedievalAcademy.org) is preferable to a fax, since faxes are often difficult to read and photocopy. Item #3 can be sent in any format, including e-mail messages from the signatories. Nominations must reach the Academy office by 1 November.

Active Fellows and Corresponding Fellows shall be scholars who have made notable contributions to the advancement of Medieval Studies. Candidates for Active Fellow must be members of the Academy and residents of North America. Candidates for Corresponding Fellow need not be members, and they must reside outside North America. A list of current Active Fellows, Corresponding Fellows and Emeriti/ae Fellows is available off the Main Page of the Academy website:

http://www.MedievalAcademy.org

Click on "Fellows," which is on the menu at the left of the page.

The 2010 election operates under new and revised by-laws and procedures initiated last year. The maximum number of slots available for Active Fellows is five, for which there must be at least ten nominations. There is no maximum number of slots for Corresponding Fellows. The total number of Active Fellows cannot exceed 125 and of Corresponding Fellows 75. Currently there are 115 Active Fellows and 67 Corresponding Fellows. Active Fellows may move to Emeritus/a status by informing President Joan M. Ferrante. Emeriti/ae Fellows maintain all the rights and privileges of the Fellowship except that they relinquish their vote.

E. Ann Matter, Conrad Rudolph, and Michael McCormick, chair, will serve on the Fellows Nominating Committee for the 2010 election.

New category of Fellows: Emeritus/Emerita status
Active Fellows may choose to take Emeritus status. The Emeritus/a Fellow gives up the right to vote for new members, but no other rights of fellowship, and is thenceforth not counted among the Active Fellows.

Emeritus/Emerita Fellows:
