Nomination
of Candidates for Active Fellow and Corresponding Fellow
Any three
members of the Academy may nominate candidates for Active Fellow
or Corresponding Fellow in the 2012 election. All nominations
that are prepared correctly will appear on the slate. In order
to present a balanced slate, additional nominations may be made
by the Fellows Nominating Committee: Danuta Shanzer (chair), Daniel
Lord Smail, and Anne Hedeman.
A nomination
consists of the following:
1) a one-page
statement of the candidate's qualifications;
2) a curriculum
vitae and bibliography not longer than four pages; and
3) the "signatures"
of three members of the Academy.
Please submit
items #1 and #2 in a clear format that can be photocopied for
the mailing of election materials to Fellows; a clean copy sent
by mail to the Academy office or as an e-mail attachment (sent
to egardiner@themedievalacademy.org
or rgmusto@themedievalacademy.org)
is preferable to a fax, since faxes are often difficult to read
and photocopy. Item #3 can be sent in any format, including e-mail
messages from the signatories. Nominations must reach the Academy
office by 8 November.
Active Fellows
and Corresponding Fellows shall be scholars who have made notable
contributions to the advancement of Medieval Studies. Candidates
for Active Fellow must be members of the Academy and residents
of North America. Candidates for Corresponding Fellow need not
be members, and they must reside outside North America. A list
of current Active Fellows, Corresponding Fellows, and Emeriti/Emeritae
Fellows is available off the Main Page of the Academy website:

Click on
"Fellows," which is on the menu at the left of the page.
The 2012
election operates under new and revised by-laws and procedures.
The maximum number of slots available for Active Fellows is five,
for which there must be at least ten nominations. There is no
maximum number of slots for Corresponding Fellows. The total number
of Active Fellows cannot exceed 125 and of Corresponding Fellows
75. Currently there are 122 Active Fellows and 64 Corresponding
Fellows. Active Fellows may move to Emeritus/Emerita status by
informing President Alice-Mary Talbot. Emeriti/Emeritae Fellows
maintain all the rights and privileges of the Fellowship except
that they relinquish their vote.
