The SCRIPTO graduate program (Scholarly Codicological Research, Information, and Palaeographical Tools) at Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nurembery aims to provide a systematic, research-oriented introduction to the study of medieval and early modern books and their interpretation. It combines research and instruction within the framework of a uniquely innovative course, each candidate will be awarded a diploma from Friedrich-Alexander-University.SCRIPTO is made up of a broad spectrum of subjects and offers the following courses:

  • Module 1: History and principles of cataloguing, text typology, and medieval Latin
  • Module 2: Book illumination and palaeography
  • Module 3: Codicology and incunabula studies
  • Module 4 SCRIPTO digital: Informatics and digitizing medieval manuscripts

Sessions will take place in Erlangen as well as in Nuremberg, Munich, and Wolfenbüttel (in cooperation with the manuscript departments of the Erlangen University Library, the Public Library in Nuremberg, the Bavarian State Library in Munich, and the Herzog Bibliothek in Wolfenbüttel).

The application deadline is 1 February 2014. Those applicants accepted to the course will be charged 1210 Euros (reduced fee when booking early or taking part on in chosen modules).   Further information may be obtained online:
