About the Committee on Centers and Regional Associations (CARA)
Developed from organizations active in the 1960's (e.g., ACOMARS headquartered at Ohio State), CARA became a standing committee of the Medieval Academy in 1969 to serve as a forum for those who are concerned with teaching; with the administration of institutes, graduate centers, undergraduate programs and committees, and research libraries; and with the organization of regional and local groups of medievalists. CARA assists institutions and individual medievalists in meeting the challenges that face medieval studies in the classroom, the library, and other institutional settings locally and nationally. It supports those who work to develop special projects and programs of instruction, local and regional networks of medievalists, and centers of research and institution in medieval studies. It is concerned with pedagogy at all levels. The list of CARA Executive Committee members is available at: http://www.medievalacademy.org/committees/committee_cara.htm

Meetings
CARA sponsors an annual meeting each fall in support of its goals. In addition, CARA sponsors a plenary session at the Medieval Academy's annual meeting and two sessions at the annual International Congress on Medieval Studies, Western Michigan University. Materials presented at CARA sessions are occasionally posted on this website for general distribution.

Visiting Scholars
The Medieval Academy of America's Committee on Centers and Regional Associations (CARA) maintains a list of international scholars who hold visiting positions at institutions in North America. The purpose of the list is to let colleagues know which international scholars are in North America in a given academic year so that programs not themselves able to make visiting international appointments might nonetheless benefit from a scholar's presence in the U.S. or Canada by, for example, inviting that scholar to deliver a presentation at their institution. The current coordinator of the list of visiting scholars is Timothy C. Graham, Director of the Institute for Medieval Studies at the University of New Mexico.

The list of visiting international scholars for 2011-12 is now available at the following URL:
